So the 2016-17 NFL season is just about to start.

Lots of things happening. Long-term injuries to Tony Romo and Teddy Bridgewater have them out for the season (Romo might make it back some time this year).

Sam Bradford traded to Minnesota to make up for losing Bridgewater.

First overall pick in the draft Jared Goff has been relegated to 3rd-string QB by the Rams (who begin their first season back in LA since 1994).

Tom Brady suspended for the first 4 games of the season after the whole 'deflategate' scandal.

But so much of the focus has been on 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick and his refusal to stand for the National Anthem. He is protesting the treatment of the black community by certain police officials and parts of the government.

Now I know that being patriotic is a big thing in America, but this guys is silently taking a knee while the anthem plays and he is copping death threats for it. So many racist comments have come out aimed at him - Chargers fans even brought along a sign depicting Kaep as an ISIS terrorist during the last preseason game.

It's beyond ridiculous.

Yeah, agree that it is just insane the treatment he is copping.

What about that Tim Tebow guy. He was America's favourite son a few years ago playing q'back for the Denver Broncos.

Not that he was that good, but he did a lot of ritual praying and shit and people thought he was close to the second coming.

His press conferences were full of patriotism, feigned humility and simple preaching.

He was the wholesome white Christian boy.

He's been through about 4 clubs since then, and recently held a very public baseball tryout hoping to land a contract.

Looks like he'll be signed for a basic $100 000 contract but a lot of clubs passed him over as a joke.

He's now become one of those people. Marketed to death, backed with managers and spin doctors trying to milk his 15 minutes of fame for everything it is worth.

He never took an ethical stance in his life, but they'll make a movie about him for sure.

The same people who find Kaep's "anti-American" stance abhorrent, tune in to Fox News every day to hear about how their elected president is a muslim terrorist who doesn't deserve to live.

Ironic...

Yeah, some of the comments I've seen on articles related to this are just flat-out insane. The stupidity of some people is amazing. I'm so glad that there are now many others following Kaep's lead and kneeling during the anthem. This is a very serious issue and it's a good thing he's bringing more attention to it.

I keep hearing that "Politics shouldn't be brought into sport" and that "He should protest in his own time, not during a game"...but what if Tommie Smith and JOhn Carlos decided not to raise their fists on the podium during the 1968 Olympics. Or If Muhammud Ali didn't refuse to go to war in Vietnam. The L.A Clippers wore their uniforms inside out to protest racism from their team's owner. The USA boycotted the Olympics in Moscow to protest the Russian invasion of Afghanistan in 1980.

In the 1906 Olympics, Irishman Peter O'Conner won silver in the long jump. When the British flag was raised to celebrate his medal, he scaled the flagpole and waved the Irish flag in protest.

Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf a devout Muslim and NBA player, refused to stand for the US national anthem in 1996 during NBA games.

Tebow is a very good commentator. He has a big career in the media ahead of him.

I am surprised he can't find a team to play with. Looking at some of the QBs around the NFL you would think he would be good enough to be at least a backup. Even a 3rd-string. If Mark Sanchez can still find teams to play with, I'm surprised Tebow can't.

Didn't know he was a commentator. It must be like a sermon listening to him.

I think he got picked up by the NY Mets for a Minor League contract.

I just read it briefly on ChristianToday before my computer started smoking when the content began trying to exorcise all my recently viewed porn content.

Well I don't really think it was an exorcism.

I think it was just that the blessed Christian content was just too darned conflicted, and then confused when it realised it was adult porn.

Lol.

Nah he has done some work for broadcasters during some college football games. He knows his stuff and talks intelligently.
