The Movie Thread

Recommended Posts

Only just noticed that this site has no thread in which to talk about one of my two biggest passions in life (the other being Rugby League of course).

So here it is.

Feel free to post reviews, news or just general chit-chat about the movie biz.

I'll start us off with:

Star Wars is the greatest thing ever made. Ever.

Never "got" Star Wars ....watched it as a kid. Mehhh !!

feel the same about Star Trek.

Usually I'm a big fan of Nicholas Cage movies. Watched "Joe" on DVD the other night. What.a.piece.of.shit. Hugely disappointed.

Watched Donnie Brasco for the 50th million time on fox last night. Wonderful movie.

Gone Girl. I recommend it highly....but I just can't talk about it for fear of spoilers.

I'm planning on seeing this one soon.

Huge David Fincher fan, and have been told this is one of his best.

When I was 5 my Dad took me and my older brother to a movie marathon of the original trilogy at Padstow Pictures. It was the first movie I ever remember seeing in a cinema. Sat through the whole thing glued to the screen. Been my favourite ever since. Must have seen each one a couple hundred times, no joke. Growing up with it all my life it's been easier to hold it in such a high regard. If I saw it for the first time today I don't know how I'd feel about it, to be honest. I reckon I'd still like it but obviously not as much as I do now.

As for Star Trek, I was never a fan of the TV shows or the original movies. I like the new films they've done so far, but they're nothing overly special.

Do you like any sci-fi, Fourex?

Great movie. Haven't seen it in a while actually. Must watch again soon.

All of the above could be considered science fiction in some way or another.

But you could also class them as:

Star Wars - fantasy western

Star Trek - boring shite

BSG - Star Wars ripoff

Alien - horror

Independence Day - big budget action

Terminator - small budget action/thriller

Gravity - science fact thriller

Predator - big budget action crossed with a slasher horror.

I worked it out reasonably early but the story still managed to shock me at times. Perfect casting....and I can't even say why lol.

Some genuine LOL moments. One quality line is delivered by Affleck's "sister" in the opening 10-15mins.

You either get it or you don't tbh. I have a fascination with space so Star Wars was always going to appeal to me. I came to Star Trek late in life and whilst I enjoy the movies, they aren't up there with my favourites. I'm liking what they've done with the more recent ones though. Nicholas Cage has declined massively in recent years....mostly due to role choice I think.

Top 10 movies Fourex.....don't think too hard, this is just to try and get a gauge on what kind of movie you like. I'm talking guilty pleasures here, not oscar material necessarily.........and fisting firemen doesn't count either so leave those "guilty pleasures" out of the list as well.

Star Wars is great, never watched or got into Star Trek though and not a sci-fi nut but will watch the big budget ones.

Harry has got me thinking what my Top 10 would be, I'm sure it's not a final list as no doubt I've forgotten a couple or it could even change, depending what mood I'm in. My top 5 would probably be in order.

Braveheart

Shawshank Redemption

Terminator 2

Rocky 1

Rocky 2

Silence of the Lambs

Casino

Legends of the Fall

Raiders of the Lost Ark

Life of Brian
